From skydiving to scuba diving after a lung cancer diagnosis

Valerie, a mother of two, continues to embrace life and adventure despite her Stage 4 EGFR+ lung cancer.

At 54, I’m a mother of two daughters, and I love relaxing with a good book or taking weekend walks with my husband and our dog, Gromit. This year has been full of adventure—I went on my first Mediterranean cruise and even did a skydive! Next up, we’re planning a trip to Hong Kong, Tokyo, and the Philippines, where I’m excited to try scuba diving for the first time.

In 2023, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 EGFR+ lung cancer, and while it has changed my life, I’ve learned to appreciate each day. My advice? Listen to your body and take one scan at a time. It’s important to remember that your loved ones will process things in their own way, but through it all, there’s still room for joy and adventure.

Help us raise awareness that anyone with lungs can get lung cancer All You Need is Lungs – share Valerie’s story!
