A shock lung cancer diagnosis after a sepsis scare

For Kaz, a non-smoker with a love for travel and adventure, her lung cancer diagnosis came as a complete surprise.

I’m 57, young at heart, and full of energy. I love travelling, taking long countryside walks, and I admit, I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie (sorry, kids! 🤣). Before my diagnosis, I spent weekends at our caravan in Shropshire, loved spending time with my grandchildren, and holidayed as often as possible in Elounda, Crete, where my husband and I have many friends.

In 2023, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 EGFR+ lung cancer. It was a huge shock—especially as a non-smoker with a healthy lifestyle and no symptoms. The cancer was only discovered after a scare with sepsis. Since then, my husband and I have embraced the motto, “life isn’t a rehearsal,” and we’re doing our best to live fully. We even bought a motorbike to explore new places together, weather permitting.

Recently, we decided to downsize to a bungalow. It’s something we’d talked about for years, but my diagnosis and my husband’s prostate cancer gave us the push we needed. Now, we’re looking forward to finishing the renovations and planning our next adventures together.

Help us raise awareness that anyone with lungs can get lung cancer All You Need is Lungs – share Kaz’s story!

“Cancer pushed us to downsize to a lovely bungalow. It needs renovation and we're looking forward to it being finished so we can plan our next adventure.” Kaz
