From teaching and yoga to facing lung cancer

Karen, a former yoga instructor and teacher, continues to find joy and positivity despite her diagnosis.

Hi, I’m Karen! I’m 60 and I’ve always been active, working as a classroom teacher and a yoga teacher. I love growing my own food and celebrating the beauty of life with my family and friends.

In 2023, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 EGFR+ lung cancer after experiencing a persistent cough, fatigue, and shortness of breath. Initially, it was thought to be asthma, an infection, or even Covid. Despite these symptoms, I continued running and staying active, never suspecting that something more serious was going on.

Now, I focus on my personal motto: Vitamin J for joy. I try to celebrate every opportunity to love life, whether it’s with my family, my friends, or just appreciating the world around me. My advice? Look for the positive whenever you can—it’s a powerful way to navigate this journey.
