Facial paralysis led to Jenny’s lung cancer diagnosis
Jenny’s unexpected symptom was a red flag for Stage 4 EGFR+ lung cancer, reminding us that lung cancer can come with surprising signs
I’m Jenny, 47, and I live with my two children. I have a bit of an obsession with house plants, crunchy peanut butter, and cups of tea. I’m a doer—whether it’s being on the water, in the water, or up a hill, as long as it ends with a cuppa and maybe some peanut butter, I’m happy!
Since my diagnosis of EGFR+ Stage 4 lung cancer, I haven’t been able to drive, and it’s felt like someone has cut off my freedom. I’m hoping to get my license back in the new year, and I’ve been flat out looking for a campervan so I can get back to my love for the outdoors. I can’t wait to have my freedom again.
Surprisingly, cancer has brought me a lot of clarity. Before my diagnosis, I already valued work-life balance and treasured watching my children grow. But now, I’ve realised that we’re truly here to live—to embrace life and enjoy all the little things. At the time of my diagnosis, I felt like I’d lived a good life, and I was surprisingly accepting of it. Every extra moment now feels like a gift.
Cancer has given me so much perspective, hope, and joy—it doesn’t feel like the end at all.
