From ‘asthma’ to lung cancer: a long road to diagnosis
Jade’s symptoms were misdiagnosed for years, but her persistence led to a life-changing discovery—Stage 4 ALK+ lung cancer.
I’m Jade, a 32-year-old who loves an adventure. Being outdoors is my happy place, whether I’m cycling, hiking, or camping. I share these adventures with my husband—we’ve travelled, gone snowboarding, and even tried cycle touring together!
I’m also a proud Girlguiding volunteer, my favourite Girlguiding role is being ‘Brown Owl’ at Brownies where I have a great time sharing my love of adventure with the girls and helping them learn that they can do anything.
Back in 2018, I went to the doctor with enlarged lymph nodes, but my symptoms were misdiagnosed for years—as asthma, acid reflux, a chest infection, and even breast cancer was considered.
Finally, in 2022, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 ALK+ lung cancer. My symptoms included hoarseness, night sweats and pain in my shoulder when exercising.
My journey taught me how important it is to know your body and to speak up when something doesn’t feel right. Don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself.
