Fatigue and headaches led to to a lung cancer diagnosis

For Harriet, a sound healer and dog mum, self-awareness and advocacy have been key in her journey with lung cancer.

I’m 35, a retail manager, and a proud dog mum to two cocker spaniels. Outside of work, I’m an accredited sound healer, something that’s become an important part of my healing journey. Fatigue and headaches were my first signs, and in 2022, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 ALK+ lung cancer. As a non-smoker, it was a complete shock.

This year, I’m excited to host Christmas and create magical moments with my family—it’s always been my favourite time of year. I’m also working hard on building up my strength and immunity so I can travel again, with dreams of an Italian road trip to finally make memories on a honeymoon, which was put on pause after my diagnosis.

To anyone else facing health uncertainties, my advice is simple: know your body, trust your gut feelings, and don’t ignore changes. Always advocate for yourself if something doesn’t feel right.

“Always advocate for yourself and if something doesn’t feel right don’t dismiss it. Most importantly never ever give up and always believe in yourself.” Harriet
