Adjusting to life after a lung cancer diagnosis

Joanna, a 58-year-old former actor, shares her experience living with EGFR+ lung cancer.

I’m Joanna, a 58-year-old mother of four, wife, and cat mother to three. Before my diagnosis, I was a working actor, and one day I hope to return to the stage. For now, I’m enjoying exploring other creative outlets while I focus on my health and plan holidays—whether abroad or in our Motorhome here in the UK.

My lung cancer diagnosis has been life-changing, with the most significant impact being on my energy levels. I’ve had to adjust to what I can achieve in a day compared to before, and this has been a challenge for my mental health. But I’ve learned that with support, most of the bumps in the road can be navigated.

I’m looking forward to celebrating my youngest daughter’s graduation next year—a milestone I am thrilled to be part of.
